Telegram channels and groups

Posts from the admin to channels and groups, members and join requests, comments under posts, the bot's menu.

Connecting a channel

Posts

Telegram → Posts → New: formatted text (bold, italic, links, quote, code, lists), photos, videos and documents from the media library, link buttons. Pick one or more channels and groups and click Publish now or Schedule.

  • Several photos and videos go as an album; the text becomes the caption when it fits (up to 1,024 characters), otherwise its own message.
  • Silent sends the notification quietly; Forbid forwarding stops the post being forwarded or saved.
  • A published post can be changed (text and buttons) with Update in channels, or deleted from a single chat.

Beside the form is a preview of how the post will look in Telegram. Test to a chat sends the post to a chosen chat (your test group, say) without publishing it. Schedule has quick options (today at 18:00, tomorrow at 10:00…), and Copy makes a new draft of the same post. The posts calendar shows a month of scheduled, published and dated draft posts; + on a day starts a new post for it.

Clicks on a post's buttons are counted per chat (the Clicks column). "Also send to the bot's subscribers" sends the same text and files to the bot's private chats.

Members and requests

A channel's page has a log: who joined, left, was banned or asked to join. From there you approve or decline a request and ban or unban a member. The member chart is built from daily snapshots.

Funnels have the triggers "Joined a Telegram channel or group" and "Asked to join" and the action "Answer a join request". The bot may write to someone who asked to join, so a funnel can greet them, ask questions and approve the request. Telegram does not let the bot write to a member who has never written to it.

Invite links on a channel's page: a separate link for each ad or partner (with a join request or not, with a limit and an expiry) shows how many people came by it.

Comments

Comments under posts live in the channel's discussion group. Make the bot an administrator there too, with "Delete messages" (and "Ban users"). Telegram → Comments then shows each comment with its post and author. You can reply (as the bot), react, delete the comment, or delete it and ban the author.

Settings → Channels → the bot → Bot profile and menu: the description (seen before pressing Start), the short description and the command menu. Each command can start a funnel with the "Link to the bot (/start with a label)" trigger, just like a link with that label.

Comment → bot and group rules

Chat rules on a group's page:

  • Comment → bot (in a channel's discussion group): a word in a comment ("+", "price") makes the bot answer in the thread with a button opening it at a funnel. The person moves to a private chat and becomes a contact. One author gets one answer per rule under a post.
  • A greeting for newcomers with {name}.
  • "I am not a bot": a newcomer writes only after pressing the button.
  • Links from newcomers (in the group less than a day) and stop words are deleted.

Channel members and commenters do not become contacts by themselves — only those who wrote to the bot or asked to join. The contact card has a Telegram channels tab.
